SVA Potsdam offers comprehensive services in the field of manoeuvring analysis and prediction. The focus lies upon model tests that are performed with free running models either in the towing tank or outdoors. Submersible vessels can be investigated free running or at the SUBPMM device.
Manoeuvring tests can be executed for conventional ship types as well as for special ships, like fast ships (planning and semi-planing boats), double end ferries or submarines. The customer gets data on the dynamic stability, the compliance with certain criteria like IMO MSC.137 (76), the wheelhouse poster, the behaviour of the ship in certain manoeuvres, the DP-capability, etc.
The manoeuvring simulation can be based on experiments as well as on calculations. The manoeuvring behaviour can be calculated and simulated numerically, which is especially helpful during the design process when different variants have to be compared. Even manoeuvring in seaways can be simulated. Furthermore, SVA Potsdam owns a state-of-the-art visual tracking system, that allows high precision measurements of ship model motions in the towing tank.
The dynamic positioning behaviour (DP-capability) is essential especially when dealing with offshore platforms. SVA Potsdam supports customers with tailored model tests and calculations to prepare the capability plot.
Manoeuvring measurements with the full scale ship are performed with our own team and own recording equipment (DGPS). Measurements on full scale ships include - beside the actual manoeuvring behaviour - measured mile trips, power, vibration and noise measurements and cavitation observations.
